Haiti Article found on Internet

When news of the deadly earthquake in Haiti struck, administrators at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center immediately knew the disaster would hit close to home. The hospital lies in central Brooklyn—the city's Haitian stronghold—and many of its staff and patients hail from the Caribbean nation.
A Haitian pastor was brought in to comfort those who lost loved ones, leading a Thursday prayer service that drew more than 100 people. The hospital launched a collection drive for the American Red Cross and two of its doctors who had been planning a medical mission to Fort Liberte near Haiti's borer with the Dominican Republic shifted gears and prepared to leave for Port-au-Prince, where they hope to set up a clinic to treat fractures, lacerations and minor traumas.
“I have so many patients from Haiti,” said Dr. William Lois, the hospital's chief of surgery. “I want to help.”
As it became apparent that as many as 50,000 people could be dead, that same desire echoed across the city, from radio stations and community newspapers in Brooklyn assisting desperate New Yorkers looking for family members in Haiti to companies big and small pledging millions of dollars in donations.
Money flooded into New York City-based aid groups at record clips. And leaders of the city's Haitian community—which numbers more than 122,000, including nearly 74,000 in Brooklyn—poured themselves into relief-organizing efforts via an extensive network of professional and community-based organizations. Small groups took off for Haiti to assess the damage and report back on the best ways to help.
“Everybody is geared up for a sprint, but this is not going to be a sprint,” said Dr. Stephen Goldfinger, chair of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, which lies in the heart of Brooklyn's Haitian community. “This is going to be a marathon.”
The Association of Haitian Physicians New York chapter had 60 volunteer doctors and 40 nurses at the starting block, but was waiting for word from an advance delegation before deploying them, according to Dr. Georges Casimir, a psychiatrist and past president of the group.
“People like me who are anxiously awaiting news and are not sure what to expect are getting involved in whatever projects we can,” said Dr. Casimir, who as of Thursday had not heard from five siblings in Haiti. “That's the only way I'm dealing with it.”

My Response:"Oh wow!! This is crazy Haiti didn't deserve this.

Home-Work #76

One non-fiction book I have read before was the book "Polyanna". This book is about a girl who goes to lie with her aunt because her dad has passed. She tries to help her aunt overcome her depression. She even start up a game called the glad game, a game that requires you to name things you are glad for. I read this book beacause looking at the back of the book and seeing what was written to talk about and  I seemed to be interested into that stuff. As a personal indivisual I prefer fiction books because they show the readers what creavitivity the author has and how much imagination they have. I think that non-fiction books either tell a story about someone's life or your life. I would like to read non-fiction books about my life , my family's life and basically how spectacualar we approach to be.

I would rather not live with Kenny's parents because......(The Watsons go to Birmingham-1963)

As an indivisual,I would rather not live with Kenny's parents. I would not like to live with his parents for many reasons. One of the reasons isn't because they are bad parents,I actually think they're pretty good parents, they care for their kids, they love eachother and they care about eachother. One way I can support that is because in the book she keeps byron from playing with matches not only because of his danger, also because of the risks of him putting his family and his family's house in danger.

One of the things that are stopping me from wanting to live with Kenny's parents is all the work they would possibly/probably put on top of me.I say this only because on page seven on the book it says that Kenny's dad made them scrape snow and ice of the Brown Bomber's windows and doors. As soon as i heard that I said to myself ,uhmmmmm........ I'll guess I'll be leaving now. I was not going to go throught that trouble.

(In this paragraph^it foreshadows on why I don't like doing chores. You will find why in the ____________ paragraph*FIND OUT!!*)

Another  reason I wouldn't live with Kenny's parents is because they are crazy. I say this because his mother threatened Byron saying that she was going to burn him  if he did it on more single time. I also say this because the mother planned a whole plan on their trip to Birmingham and usually a NORMAL mother would just wait and see what happens on the way there.  One other reason I say this is because  the dad instead of beating Byron when he got the new hairdo he decide to cut and shave all of Byron's hair completely off.

As I have been writing so far in this essay, I have been talking alot about why i would rather not live with Kenny' parents,Wilona(his mother) and Daniel (his dad). I only say all this stuff because I believe they don't know how to handle me. Many people say that I am very nice, kind, different, funny,a good friend(that part is true),and such  swet child.I bet only one third of that stuff is true according to my home life.I am actually according to my home life I am kind of mean, crazy, lazy, and I'm alsoa pain in the..neckbasically I'm different! His parents will NOT be able to handle any of that nonsense and I believe everyone know thats true. Other than that I think they are pretty good parents.

2010!!! THERES GONNA BE A CHANGE............

In 2010 I hope to change many things. One of those things are my grades. I want to change my grades because it takes a scholar student to get in scholar colleges.I plan on doing this by doing all my homework, behaving and participating in class and showing off examples. I also wanna change my mood and attitude. I wanna change my attitude and mood because I don't wanna be the only one in high school eating lunch, reading books and e.t.c in a bathroom stall. I plan on doing this by taking some sort of management class or learning to keep my cool. During this year also known as the start of a new decade,2010 I want it to be a different year and I want to be  whole different person.

Reading Response

Reading Response : The Color Of Water-A Black Man’s Tribute to His White Mother

Summary: As I continue reading this book is getting more and more interesting. Right now in the book the main character is talking about his dad and how his mother was an immigrant. He talks about how hard life was and how having a mother from a different race was actually kind of hard. Reading this book so far pulled up many thoughts in ma head, it made me think a lot ,it made me wonder a lot.

Analysis: The one thing I don’t like about this book is that it is kind of scary to think that this guy who is here writing this book right now is actually telling us facts and statement about his life. Other than that this book is perfecto!!! I think that these are the type of books I would read and then say ,let me make a autobiography this sounds really good. ”hmmm”
